English Summary Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy urged Korean Air on September 3, 2026, to close indirect routes allegedly used to transport roosters destined for cockfighting and explicitly state the ban in its published policies. According to the groups’ press release, Korean Air told AFP in April that it had suspended transportation of roosters of all ages on routes from the United States to the Philippines. The groups alleged that investigators subsequently found birds being flown on Korean Air from the United States to Vietnam, then transferred to another airline for transport to Manila. Wayne Pacelle, president of both organizations, acknowledged Korean Air’s April decision and said the request aimed to build on that action. The groups also launched the “Purple the Sky” campaign, inviting K-pop fans to support their call. Pacelle emphasized that the campaign was an invitation to participate, not a boycott. The campaign includes a billboard in Los Angeles’ Koreatown thanking Korean Air for its earlier decision and calling for the remaining route to be closed. The organizations also urged the U.S. Congress to advance legislation restricting commercial air transportation of animals intended for fighting.
